Teutonic Wine Company - Wine Tasting

Hey Everyone!

For this weeks wine tasting we will be featuring Teutonic Wine Company for Oregon. We will have 4 of their wines open to taste! Cost of the tasting is $10, or free with purchase of a bottle from the tasting. Please join us anytime between 6PM-8PM! Cheers!

Featured Wines:

Teutonic Crab Tomalley

Teutonic Bergspitze Pinot Noir

Teutonic Laurel Vineyard Rose

Teutonic Red Wine

More about Teutonic:

It all started in 2002 when Barnaby was the wine buyer at Papa Haydn Restaurant in Portland’s southeast location. German wine importer Ewald Moseler, showed him 14 different Rieslings from Germany’s famed Mosel wine region. Barnaby bought all 14 and started one of the largest German wine lists in Portland. That same night he told his wife, Olga that he needed to learn how to make wines that are as expressive to terroir (expression of the place the grapes are grown) as these Rieslings.

Without a clue as to how to start or find investors for financial backing, we (Barnaby and Olga) started on a long journey into one of Oregon’s most difficult industries- the wine business. As our luck would have it, a friend of ours offered her fallow farm land in Alsea, Ore., to start a vineyard. So in 2005, along with a handful of good friends, we put 2000 vines into the ground, mostly Pinot Noir and some Pinot Meunier and Pinot Blanc. As we were learning how to manage the vineyard, Barnaby left his restaurant career and started as a rookie at a shared winery facility in Carlton.

We produced our first commercial vintage in 2008 which included our Estate Pinot Noir from the Alsea vineyard and Pinot Meunier made with fruit from a U-pick vineyard called Borgo Pass. From there, we increased our production by purchasing fruit from other vineyards around the Willamette Valley. We always look for colder sites, higher elevation and dry-farmed vines that are ideally 30 years or older. Today, Teutonic Wine Company produces roughly 6,000 cases of wine per year, all varieties that are typical to the Germany’s Mosel region. These include Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Chasselas, Gewürztramer, Silvaner, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, Rosé and a variety of white blends. All the wines we make, with the exception of one blend, are single vineyard wines.

For this week's wine tasting we will be featuring Chateau Musar. We will have 5 of their wines open to try. Cost of the tasting is $10, or free with purchase of a bottle from the tasting. Please join us anytime between 6PM-8PM. Cheers!

Hochar Pere et Fils

Chateau Musar Rouge 2010

More about Chateau Musar:

Chateau Musar, located in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, was founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar. In 1959, after studying oenology at the University of Bordeaux, his son Serge became winemaker. Serge spent 18 years perfecting the formula for Chateau Musar’s Red and was chosen as Decanter Magazine’s first ‘Man of the Year’ in 1984 for his dedication to producing superb quality wines during Lebanon’s Civil War (1975-1990). Recognition from Michael Broadbent, at the 1979 Bristol Wine Fair, threw Musar into the international spotlight and helped create a cult-like following. A legend of a winemaker, often heralded as a philosopher of wine, Serge passed away in 2014. The Hochar family remains committed to his legacy. Serge’s son Gaston manages the day-to-day running of the Chateau Musar winery, while his other son Marc handles its commercial aspects. Ronald Hochar, like his brother Serge, was encouraged to participate at Musar from an early age: both grew up washing bottles and working at the winery before pursuing their separate paths within the business. Having studied law, Ronald’s good-humored contributions on the commercial and logistical fronts (against huge odds he kept Musar’s trucks running during the war) remain vital to the business.

Oregon Wine Festival

We are kicking off the spring season with our first Oregon Wine Festival! We will be pouring what we think is the best wine to celebrate the spring season.

Oregon Wine Fest 2019!

Spring is upon us and to celebrate the new season we are pouring exclusively all Oregon made wine! Oregon is a young wine growing region, with grapes first being planted in 1961. We are now onto our second generation of winemakers for the region but the wines of Oregon, especially Pinot Noir, are gaining recognition for being the best in the world. While Pinot Noir is king; Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Riesling hold their own with being thoughtfully made and elegant. These grapes prosper in cool climate and are the perfect wines to ease into the warm, and yet still cool, spring months.

Admission into the event will grant you:

Cristom Vineyards Wine Tasting

Hey Everyone!

Every Tuesday at Seaboard we host our weekly wine tasting in the wine bar. Focusing on wines from either a certain region, or specific winery, come learn a little more about the wines we love carrying from our Wine Director, Kyle.

The tasting is $10 but if you buy a bottle from the tasting that fee is waived.

Join us Tuesday January 8th as we feature Cristom Vineyards from the Willamette Valley in Oregon.

"Cristom Vineyards began a quarter of a century ago as a collaboration between an engineer and a biochemist who each possessed a deep-rooted respect for the land, the natural winemaking process, and Pinot Noir. 25 years later, second-generation winegrower and owner Tom Gerrie leads winemaker Steve Doerner and our tenured viticulture team in tending our Estate vineyards, and producing elegant, dynamic wines, recognizable by our hallmark style of whole-cluster fermentation by native yeasts.

Our winemaking philosophy begins with respect for our land and estate vines. We're proud to be Certified Sustainable by Low Input Viticulture & Enology (LIVE), both in our winery which we run responsibly, and in our fields, that are thoughtfully and meticulously farmed with a focus on quality.

The four estate Pinot Noir vineyards - Eileen, Jessie, Louise and Marjorie, named for Gerrie family matriarchs - each possess natural variances in soil, elevation and exposition. With minimal intervention during the winemaking process, Tom, Steve and team strive to craft wines that are an honest recording of both the vineyard and the vintage, producing the ultimate expressions of the stellar fruit we’re fortunate enough to work with. Recognized globally as a leading producer in our beloved Willamette Valley, our wines continue to be a unique blend of tradition, modernity and finesse."

The Lineup:
Cristom Estate Pinot Gris
Cristom Mount Jefferson Cuvee Pinot Noir
Cristom Estate Viognier
Cristom Dry Riesling "Tunkalilla Vineyard"

Join us Thursday December 13th at 6:30PM to taste through both delicious wine and chocolate!

We are partnering again with The Secret Chocolatier for these events. A little about The Secret Chocolatier:

We’re a family of chocolate artisans. The Dietz and Ciordia families, to be exact. The Secret Chocolatier was conceived when Chef Bill Dietz found himself at a career crossroads. He called a family meeting with his wife, Karen, their daughter Robin Ciordia and her husband Andy, and we four foodies decided to take the plunge into entrepreneurship. Three years later, after building a following at local farmers markets and retailers, we responded to public demand for a storefront where customers could get their chocolate moment five days a week.

And we’re writing chocolate history every day.

BEER RELEASE! Styrian Wolf Orchard IPA!
Dec

4:00 PM16:00

BEER RELEASE! Styrian Wolf Orchard IPA!

This is the newest release in our Orchard IPA series, what’s the Orchard IPA series you ask?   First off our orchard series focuses on the New England style of Hazy IPA where we focus on using only one type of hop, the only exception was the Veteran’s Blend which was made with multiple hops selected by veteran owned breweries to give back to Veteran’s charities.

Adam thought this would be a fun idea to help people figure out what their favorite hop is, so we started with Eldorado in May, Mosaic in July, Galaxy in August, Hallertau Blanc in October, and Veterans Blend in November…

So now we are using all Styrian Wolf hops this round, these are not experimental batches, they’re full production beers.

About the Styrian Wolf variety, it comes to us from the Slovenian Institute for Hop Research and Brewing in Zalec Slovenia.  It is a public research, developmental, advisory and educational organization that also brings us Styrian Dragon, Fox and Golding. This team works closely with the institute to select these varieties for U.S craft brewers.

Styrian Wolf has dominant strawberry flavors with slight savory passion fruit, mango, spice, citrus and floral aromas topped with notes of herbal anise.

Come out Monday and enjoy!
